Intro post

Hi! My name is Jessica Quintanar and I am a 4th Grade teacher at Steeple Run School in Naperville. I have been teaching for 14 years, primarily in 5th Grade, but recently switched to 4th Grade two years ago.  Technology has never been a strong area for me, and to be honest it can be bit overwhelming.  However, with all of the advancements and our kiddos being one to one next year, I felt it was time to embrace the change and learn new teaching strategies by incorporating more technology.

Currently, I use Google Docs, and Google Slides within my classroom.  Students are able to collaborate on projects using Google, and I am able to provide prompt feedback on their work.  I have had a lot of success with Google and have found it increases student engagement which is wonderful to see.

I have a lot of failures while using technology so it's hard to pick just one, but just like we expect our students to persevere through obstacles, we must do the same.  So through these courses, I'm hoping technology will become less scary and overwhelming.  I'm excited to watch not only my personal growth of tech integration into my classroom but also my students.

Happy Summer!

  1. Hi Jess,
I, too, have had lots of failures when it comes to technology in the classroom (and outside...), but I guess I have learned as much from the failures as the successes. Even though I have been a part of the pilot for the past two years I still feel like I have not fully embraced what my classroom could be with technology, and honestly, I am not sure I have been able to devote the time to really delve into it. I am also hoping these course help me to grow. Maybe I'll feel more like I'm ON the technology bus instead of running behind it.
    Happy summer,
    Ashley

  2. Hi Jess,
It's great to get to know you through your introductory blog. I appreciate your honesty and willingness to continue to learn about technology, despite the "failures" you encountered. I think it's so powerful for students to see your willingness to learn as well. When I stayed home with my 4 kids for 10 years, I didn't even know how to do a Powerpoint presentation! It's amazing how much technology has changed my attitude and teaching practice. I hope you are enjoying your switch to 4th grade. It must be a big change after teaching 5th for so long.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Janet

Thank you for sharing about your experience! It is inspiring to see that although you felt technology is not one of your strengths, you are willing to embrace change and take on new learning so that you can benefit your students.

  5. Jessica,
Based on your blog it looks like you've taken a few courses already through this endorsement program. I hope to take away new things that I can apply to my classroom. I'm hoping through all of our shared experiences we can help each other get better at using technology in our classrooms. I look forward to working with you!
